Sasuke Uchiha is generally one of the most beloved characters in anime. His cool character design and brooding but suave personality made him a hot favourite among fans from across the globe.
Not only does Sasuke have a cool character design but his character arc is one of the most dramatic and heart wrenching in all of the Naruto storyline. Viewers have watched Sasuke grow from an unskilled child into one of the most powerful ninjas to ever exist.

On this journey we watch him defeat foes and lose friends as well as change vastly due to the confusion his anger brings him.
Naruto Shippuden ends with Sasuke leaving the Hidden Leaf Village after being pardoned for his crimes by the newly appointed Hokakge, Kakashi Hatake.
In Boruto, Sasuke uses his skills to complete missions in the best interest of the Hidden Leaf Village and under the instruction of his reclaimed friend and rival, Naruto Uzumaki.
As many anime fans, let alone Naruto fans, love Sasuke’s character many fear his death, especially in Boruto as he has changed his tune. We have looked into the potential for Sasuke’s death and if it happens in Naruto as well as Boruto. Read on to find out.
Who Is Sasuke Uchiha?
Sasuke Uchiha is a shinobi from the Hidden Leaf Village who came from the same generation as Naruto Uzumaki and his now wife, Sakura Haruno, as they fought in the same team until Sasuke defected from the Hidden Leaf Village.
Under Kkashi Hatake’s leadership both Sasuke and Naruto became greatly skilled ninja, the skills of which propelled each other into a rivalry which would mould them into the ninjas they are today.
However, Sasuke’s trust and belief in the ways of the Hidden Leaf Village and his ability to grow there is questioned by him when he realises he isn’t strong enough to defeat his brother Itachi Uchiha.
Itachi was an extremely powerful ninja himself and had achieved his Mangekyo Sharingan, as well as a reputed status within the Village’s ranks, at an early age.
Much of Sasuke’s anger and motivation to become a great ninja is due to his brothers’s decision to murder his whole clan during the Uchiha Clan Downfall.
Itachi massacred his clan on the condition that he could keep Sasuke alive, however he lied to Sasuke, convincing him that he had committed this act of murder in order to test himself as a ninja and left Sasuke alive so he could challenge himself against him own brother’s skills, powered by the anger that Itachi has just instilled into Sasuke.
Sasuke, believing this was true until after he defeats his older brother, is then sent on a path of confusion bred by hatred where he now wishes to avenge his brother for the way the Hidden Leaf village treated him.
This eventually leads to a fight with Naruto where Sasuke comes very close to death, but Naruto refuses to kill him as he sees Sasuke as a brother.
Naruto’s undying resolve to save Sasuke rather than kill him begins to introduce some light into Sasuke’s life and turns him on the road to redemption, using his skills to help the village, just as Itachi would have wanted.
Does Sasuke Die In Naruto?
The short answer is no, Sasuke doesn’t die in the anime or manga version of Naruto or Naruto: Shippuden. Sasuke is a main character within both parts of the Naruto anime, so he has the usual plot armour that protects main characters.
Naruto is basically about Sasuke and Naruto’s rivalry and how they end the metaphorical curse on the Hidden Leaf Village whereby shinobi end up killing each other.
Peace is achieved in the story as Naruto and Sasuke work together to reach their goals rather than fighting each other, and abandoning their teammates, in the name of completing a mission.
This is essentially why Naruto: Shippuden ends the way it does, with the aftermath of Sasuke and Naruto’s reconciliation being the catalyst that ends the Fourth Shinobi World War and ultimately saves the world within which they exist.
So Sasuke or Naruto’s death wouldn’t really make any sense within this context and narrative.
Does Sasuke Die In Boruto?

No, but he comes pretty close during the most recent battle in the anime, and manga, as Boruto, Naruto, Sasuke, and Kawaki battle Momoshiki and Isshiki Otsutsuki.
The resurrected Isshiki Otsutsuki attacks the Hidden Leaf Village and Sasuke and Naruto enters battle with him, it takes Sasuke to save Naruto.
Bortuo sends Isshiki into another dimension with his space-time jutsu enabled by his Kama, Sasuke and Naruto follow them there with Sasuke’s Rinnegan eye which allows him to manipulate space-time.
A battle commences whereby Isshiki is defeated by Kawaki who uses a shadow clone. The battle seems to be over until Boruto, who’s Kama links him to the celestial Momoshiki Otsutsuki, is taken over by Momoshiki.
The body of Boruto, while controlled by Momoshiki, leaps at Sasuke with a kunai knife and stabs his right eye which holds his rinnegan. This destroys Sasuke’s Rinnegan and in turn his ability to use space-time jutsu.
Without his Rinnegan Sasuke cannot travel between dimensions of space or time, they have to rely on Boruto to help them leave the dimension, after defeating Momoshiki.
Sasuke without his Rinnegan is no longer as powerful as Indra Otsutsuki, the ancestral founder of the Uchiha clan, who also had both the Sharingan, Rinnegan and six path chakra.
In Boruto, Sasuke is the only one who has all these abilities, both Madara and Obito Uchiha had this aggregation of abilities in the Naruto series until their death.
This leads to Sasuke making it clear that he might have to kill Boruto, while under Momoshiki’s control, in order to save the village, but equally, Boruto’s ability to control Momoshiki could result in him becoming a more powerful ninja than his father.
In between this arc and the next, which has only come out recently, Sasuke seemed to disappear for a while which could convince some fans of his death, but he does come back and certainly isn’t dead.
Could Sasuke Die In Boruto?
As the anime is not finished, nor the manga, the fans of the show could still be in for a few surprises from Mashashi Kishimoto as the Boruto series draws on.
With Sasuke’s Rinnegan eye destroyed, his powers are certainly weakened and he no longer has the ability to travel through space dimensions, which is vital to defeating the Otsutsuki’s who seek to destroy the village.
The idea of Sasuke dying is hard to accept, but with the way the Naruto series went, it might not be as unlikely as you hope. In both Naruto and Sasuke’s lives as shinobi, death has certainly propelled them both to become the ninjas they are in the Boruto series.
When Jiraiya, Naruto’s sensei, dies Naruto is pushed to defeat Pain and becomes a much more powerful ninja in his goal to avenge his mentor and godfather.
It is Jiraiya’s death that encourages Naruto to go to Mount Myoboku and train with the toads in order to learn perfect Sage Mode as well as hone his senjutsu.
Similarly, it is the death of Sasuke’s parents that lead him to want to become a powerful shinobi to defeat his brother. After Itachi himself dies, or is killed by Sasuke (this is debated), Sasuke is again pushed to become even more powerful.
It is arguable whether Sasuke would have become the ninja he is in Boruto if it wasn’t for the death of his brother.
For Boruto, he certainly admires Sasuke and his powers, and seeks to become a ninja of Sasuke’s level. When placed under the mentorship of Sasuke he certainly develops a lot.
As a main character’s death had such an effect on Naruto and Sasuke, it could easily be inferred that the death of Sasuke would create a great change in Boruto for the better or worse.
Moreover, after this most recent battle where Sasuke loses his Rinnegan, he concedes that they might have to kill Boruto, should it come to it. Sasuke talks in depth with Naruto about this in the most recent episodes.
Perhaps, and this is only conjecture, Boruto may attempt to kill Sasuke again, as he already has when controlled by Momoshiki, and this could create the trauma that could lead Boruto to become an even better shinobi than both Naruto and Sasuke.
As the Uchiha clan’s numbers are pretty low, there could be a chance that Sasuke could pass on his Sharingan eye to someone, as this has happened often in the Naruto series.
Sarada and Sasuke are the only ones left, beyond Kakashi, who own the Sharingan eye, so it’s possible Sasuke could pass it on to Boruto or Naruto.
Sarada also has not awakened her Mangekyo Sharingan yet, this power is often awakened by great loss or trauma, as it was with Sasuke when he kills Itachi, Obito when he saves Kakashi, Kakashi when he kills Rin, Itachi when Shisui kills himself.
So, it wouldn’t be too outlandish to suggest that if Sasuke dies it could be the necessary trauma that awakens Sarada’s Mangekyo Sharingan, making her the last surviving member of the Uchiha clan who has awoken a Mangekyo Sharingan.
If Sasuke dies, Sarada is the last surviving member of the Uchiha clan.
Our Final Say
Well, Sasuke doesn’t die in Boruto, or Naruto. He certainly comes close in both, due to his own abilities as a shinobi he will undoubtedly have to battle other shinobi of similar power in order to achieve his goals.
But Sasuke has never lost a battle so greatly, only to Naruto who spared his life due to their friendship.
However, many characters die in Naruto, so the same could happen in Boruto. As we have already laid out, trauma often encourages shinobi to become stronger, so it isn’t out of the question that a character’s death will make either Boruto or Sarada into stronger ninja.
So, it wouldn’t be out of the question that Sasuke could die in order to progress the narrative on Boruto. Sasuke could die by the hands of Boruto, if the battle where he loses his Rinnegan is a foreshadowing of what is to come in the future.
