What Happened To Rize Kamishiro

Overview

If you’re in a rush and don’t have time to read the entire article, then we have provided a condensed version of Rize’s fate in the section below:

Rize was killed during the steel beam incident, where she was crushed after revealing her ghoul status and attempting to devour Ken Kaneki.

It is implied that her death was orchestrated by Nimura Furuta, who had assumed the identity of the clown Souta.

Upon her death, Rize’s kakuhou was removed from her body and implanted into Kaneki by Dr Akihiro Kanou.

If you want to learn more about Rize’s fate and the aftermath of her death, you will find a more detailed character description in the following sections…

What is Tokyo Ghoul?

Tokyo Ghoul is a manga and anime series set in an alternate universe where ghouls live in secrecy among the human population. Despite looking like humans, ghouls have enhanced abilities and must feed on human flesh to survive.

The events of the series begin when a student named Ken Kaneki barely survives a deadly encounter with Rize Kamishiro, a fellow student who reveals herself as a ghoul before and tries to eat him.

While Kaneki is able to survive the attack, he discovers that he is now part ghoul, something that was made possible by transplanting Rize’s organs into his body.

Following this, Kaneki must learn to control his new supernatural powers while also feeding on human flesh, with his mission being aided by a group of ghouls who own a cafe called Anteiku.

Who is Rize Kamishiro?

Rize Kamishiro was a mysterious woman who first encountered Ken Kaneki during his many visits to Anteiku, where they bonded over a shared love of books.

It was clear that Kaneki had a crush on Rize, who was depicted as having a slender shape and long purple hair. However, during their first date, Rize would reveal herself as a ghoul before taking a bite out of Kaneki’s shoulder.

During this encounter, Rize would be crushed by a steel beam dropped by an unknown assailant, allowing Kaneki to escape and seek treatment for his wounds. While in hospital, Dr Kanou would take Rize’s kakuhou and transplant it into Kaneki’s body, giving him the same powers and abilities as a ghoul.

Following his transformation, Kaneki would learn more about Rize’s history and discover that she was also known as the binger eater in the ghoul community.

Of course, many members of the fandom have questioned what happened to Rize following her death and who actually killed her. So if you want to know more about her fate, you can find the answers down below…

Who Killed Rize Kamishiro?

While on their first date, Rize would attempt to devour Kaneki after revealing herself as a ghoul, only to be stopped by a falling beam. Despite not knowing what happened, Kaneki would later recall seeing a strange figure at the factory:

‘On that night, at the edge of Rize’s gaze, I saw it […] a clown was laughing…’

Upon this revelation, it became clear that Rize’s death had been orchestrated by Nimura Furuta, who had disguised himself as the clown Souta to hide his identity. Because of this, many members of the fandom began to question his motives, as it was clear that Nimura had loved Rize before her death.

The most common theory is that Nimura knew of Rize’s conflict with Aogiri and V, and decided to kill her himself to stop her from falling into the wrong hands. It can also be assumed that Nimura intended to use the dragon cells to revive her, so that they could spend the rest of their lives together.

It seems Rize’s death was yet another component in Nimura’s mission for ‘super peace’, which demonstrated just how far he would go for his cause.

However, the steel beam incident was not the last time that we would see Rize, as it was later revealed that she was alive…

How Did Rize Survive?

While everyone assumed that Rize had been killed in the steel beam incident, it would later be discovered that she was alive. In fact, Rize Kamishiro would stay alive until the end of the series, when she would meet her true death.

Following her attack on Kaneki, Rize would be captured by Dr Kanou and used to transform Kaneki into a ghoul-human hybrid. When the operation was a success, Kanou would continue to use his methods of ghoulification to transform other characters into one-eyed ghouls, such as Nimura and the Yasushina twins.

During this time, Rize was alive and being held captive by Kanou, who used her body as the main donor for his experiments. Following a raid of Kanou’s lab, Rize would be rescued by Yomo before returning to Shachi after the CCG raid on Anteiku.

Unfortunately, Rize’s time with Yomo was not pleasant, as she was chained in a shipping container and forced to eat raw meat from the butcher. However, Yomo would make sure to never overfeed her, in case she acquired enough strength to escape.

What Happened To Rize Kamishiro?

After being captured by Shachi, Rize was treated kindly by the elder ghoul, who wanted to raise her as his daughter. However, this resulted in Rize possessing Shachi, which resulted in his defeat at the hands of Kishou Arima.

Following this, it can be assumed that Rize was captured again by Nimura, who could be seen using her kakuhou to make the oggai. The next time we see Rize, she is being held captive in a large tank, where she has lost her sanity because of the countless experiments being performed on her body.

At the end of the series, we see a more powerful Rize emerge from the Dragon’s nucleus as a new being, although some have theorized that this Rize was a clone of the original. In the final chapter, Rize is put out of her misery by Ken Kaneki, bringing their story and the series full circle.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it can be confirmed that Rize Kamishiro is killed at the end of Tokyo Ghoul when Kaneki releases her from her suffering.

Despite their complicated relationship, Kaneki killing Rize can be seen as a heroic and kind moment, as it allowed her to escape her miserable existence. And just like that, one of the most powerful ghouls in the universe is reduced to a slow and quiet end.

And that’s all folks…
