Naruto Shippuden is an anime series created by Masashi Kishimoto, and based on a manga series of the same name, also created by Kishimoto. The TV show follows the magna pretty closely, only changing minor details here and there, but the plot mainly stays the same.
Naruto Shippuden follows the boisterous and chaotic Naruto Uzumaki from his childhood as he attempts to become the most powerful ninja in his village know as a Hokage
What Is A Hokage?
Each village in Naruto Shippuden has a group of Shinobi, or ninjas, who protect the village and carry out tasks to help out the villagers. In order to become a Shinobi you must go through rigorous training of both the mind, body, and soul to gain chakra.
A female shinobi is known as a Kunoichi. During war time, the Shinobi and Kunoichi come together to form a military which protects the villages.
Once a Shinobi has harnessed chakra they can begin to use Jutsu, the mystical and supernatural powers bestowed upon the Shinobi. This allows Shinobi to complete extraordinary mental and physical feats such as reading people's minds, honing the elements, and walking on water.
A Kage is a title bestowed upon the most powerful shinobi of the village. The Kage acts as the sort of military leader of the village and sorts out disputes while also protecting the village with his powers.
Each Kage of each village is different, the Hokage is specifically the Kage of Konohagakure.
Konohagakure is also known commonly in English as the Hidden Leaf village, which sits at the bottom of a mountain known as Hokage Rock. On Hokage Rock the face of each Hokage is etched onto the rock, much like Mount Rushmore. There have been seven Hokage in the village.
Who Is Naruto?
Naruto Uzumaki is the main character of Naruto Shippuden, the show starts as a powerful Kyuubi (a mystical fox demon) attacks the Hidden Leaf Village.
The Kyuubi was extremely powerful and the villagers of Konohagakure were powerless against the destruction the Kyuubi wrought on the village, many people died and much of the village was destroyed.
The Kyuubi was eventually stopped by the Fourth Hokage who performed a Jutsu whereby he sacrificed himself and sealed the demon within a newborn child. That new born child was Naruto Uzumaki.
This rendered Naruto as the Jinchuriki of the Nine-tailed fox. A Jinchuriki is a ninja that has had one of the tailed beasts sealed within them, enabling them immense chakra reserves that affords its host extraordinary power.
Although simply because you are a Jinchuriki does not mean you will automatically become Hokage. In Naruto, his role as Jinchuriki is important and certainly helped him to eventually become the Hokage.
As Naruto grew older, many of the villagers chose to shun and avoid Naruto as they knew about the demon inside of him, meanwhile the Fourth Hokage was forever praised in the village's history.
As a result of his mistreatment, and as a young orphaned boy, Naruto caused much mischief and havoc in order to gain attention from the villagers who ignored him.
The villagers turn their nose up as Naruto claims he will be the village's next Hokage, unbeknownst to Naruto is the powerful demon inside him.
The Fourth Hokage, who defeated the Nine Tailed Fox by sealing it in his son, is actually Naruto’s father. Naruto eventually meets his father who helps him in defeating the powerful Nagato, who launches an attack on Hidden Leaf Village.
Naruto’s heroic acts in defeating Nagato set him on a path to becoming Hokage.
Naruto’s behaviour begins to change as he enters the Ninja academy and learns how to hone his own chakras.
One turning point for Naruto is when he learns the multiple shadow clone technique, which becomes a signature move, and Naruto learns of the power of the Nine Tailed Fox inside of him.
Naruto’s graduation from the Ninja Academy sets him on a path to eventually become the Hokage of Konohagakure.
How Does Naruto Become Hokage?
Naruto was a pretty inept shinobi during his time at Ninja Academy and took three tries to graduate. Through sheer determination and will power do Naruto’s skills slowly approve while he is young.
In his trials at the Ninja Academy he eventually defeats more powerful shinobi such as Neji, Gaara and Kabuto, earning acknowledgement from his fellow shinobis.
By the time that Pain/Nagato invades the Hidden Leaf Village, Naruto has been under the tutelage of Jiraiya for two and a half years by this point which makes him powerful enough to deal with the start of the Akatsuki, who eventually declare war on the Hidden Leaf Village.
Naruto was the main force who defeats Pain almost single handedly and learns more about how to use his Jinchuriki powers of the Nine Tailed Fox. By defeating Pain, Naruto earns much respect from fellow Shinobis.
After defeating Pain and suppressing the Akatsuki for a while, who are the rival clan who seek to destroy Hidden Leaf, Naruto trains harder and more often and starts to really learn how to use his chakra and jutsu to the best of his ability.
Soon, the Fourth Shinobi World War commences and the five Kage seek to protect Naruto and not let him participate in the war for a period. During this period Naruto is sent to a remote island in the Land of Lightning where he seeks to complete a mission.
During his period on the island he trains under the Jinchuriki of the Eight Tailed Beast, who helps him overcome the Nine Tailed Beast.
In his battle with his own demon, Naruto meets his mother who informs him of his heritage and history with the Nine Tailed Beast rendering Naruto's will to become the next Hokage even stronger.
Naruto is eventually enlisted to help Kakashi in his war efforts. This involves dealing with the defected Sasuke Uchiha, who is Naruto’s best friend and rival.
Naruto’s efforts, where Kakshi failed, to save Suske and bring him back to Konoha by defeating him in battle, were instrumental in ending the Fourth Shinobi World War.
As Naruto had defeated Sasuke without killing him, and as a result of him being one the main factors in defeating the Akatsuki, Naruto is high on the list to become the next Hokage. During the war Naruto loses his arm and replaces it with a prosthetic one.
Naruto was highly considered for the role of Hokage after the war but was only a genin at the time and was too young. Subsequently, when the war is over, Kakashi replaces Tsunade as the Sixth Hokage.
When Does Naruto Become Hokage?
Kakashi was basically only Hokage as a placement so that Naruto could come of age and become Hokage once he had met the requirements.
As soon as Naruto met the requirements to become Hokage, it was happily afforded to him by Kakashi, although Naruto was still a genin becoming the first of genin to become Hokage.
Naruto becomes the Seventh Hokage when he becomes 32. His age is not obvious in the Anime, nor the Mange, but fans have deduced the age of Naruto when he became Hokage from the ages of other characters.
Once Naruto gets married to Hinata, and they have children, including Naruto’s son Boruto, Naruto was selected to succeed Kakashi as the Seventh Hokage completing his childhood dream.
What Episode Do We See Naruto Become Hokage?
Naruto becoming Hokage has often confused Naruto Shippuden fans, as Naruto becoming Hokage is not depicted in the anime nor the manga.
In the anime, Naruto Shippuden, it ends after the battle between Naruto and Sasuke which leads to the end of the Fourth Shinobi World War. SO there is no actual episode where she sees Naruto become Hokage.
This is the same with the manga too. Chapter 699 ends similarly with the battle between Sasuke and Naruto. Chapter 700 then begins and Naruto is already a father and a Hokage.
If you want to see or read how Naruto became Hokage. Kishimoto actually wrote a short story entitled ‘The Day When Naruto Became Hokage’ which goes over the events.
In Bouto, the sequel about Naruto’s son, the events that lead to Naruto becoming Hokage are also talked about. There is a popular OVA that is fan made which depicts Naruto becoming the Hokage, but this is not official.
